Suitable for 5-10 year olds and their accompanying adults. Children and adults alike need to purchase a ticket for this event.
Each year the Festival organises the Derby Children’s Picture Book Award. The 2024 winner is Thunderboots, a beautiful tale from the dream author-illustrator team of Naomi Jones (The Perfect Fit and The Odd Fish) and previous nominee Rebecca Ashdown (My Granny is a Queen and The Whopper).
Join Naomi and Rebecca as they introduce you to the world of Thunderboots. Take part in a Superhero warm-up; learn how to draw Trixie, listen to this empowering story that teaches us that everyone learns differently and ask Naomi and Rebecca questions about making books. Sometimes our difference might just be our superpowers.
Thunderboots was voted for by around 6,000 Derby schoolchildren from a longlist of 50 books submitted by publishers.
