To mark the end of Dracula Returns to Derby, the University of Derby-led AHRC-funded research project, archivist Adrian Autton presents his ongoing research into the papers of Hamilton Deane, the actor who licensed Dracula from Florence Stoker and gave the world the iconic Dracula.

Adrian presents a wealth of material concerning Deane, all drawn from his own papers, which belong to the Dracula Society and are held at Westminster Archives. Learn about Deane’s early life, his film career in the USA, his long association with Derby (where he was known as the ‘Derby Magnet’), not to mention his pioneering work in British drama, which brought Dracula, Frankenstein and other classics to the stage.

CivicLAB is based at the University of Derby. The city is a UNESCO City of Life Long Learning and home to World Heritage Sites. CivicLAB has been designed to support academics, creative & cultural industry professionals, freelance creatives and the public to share their insights on research and practice through a place-based approach to knowledge generation.
